Africa covers some 30,244,050 square kilometers (permanent land and islands together), which is 20.3% of the total land surface of the earth.
It is the second largest continent on Earth in terms of surface area.
Only Asia is bigger.
When North America, Central America and South America is seen as one continent, Africa is in third place.
More than 1 billion people live there, which is about one-seventh of the world's population.
